Seminary Ramblings

Updates from life at seminary

So today I picked up a copy of Luther’s Commentary on Galatians from the Crossway Classic Commentary series. Let’s just say I’m pretty excited; I love the guy. I say that as a warning that I’ll probably be posting up some good ole’ reflections from Martin Luther in the near future. Until then, two quick Luther quotes followed by a witty little quote from mainline scholar Stephen Westerholm.

God saves only sinners, teaches only the stupid, enriches only the poor, raises only the dead.

If the devil can’t ruin people by making them worse, he ruins them by making them better.

“Students who want to know how a Rabbinic Jew perceived humanity’s place in God’s world will read Paul with caution and Luther not at all. On the other hand, students who want to understand Paul, but feel that they have nothing to learn from Martin Luther, should consider a career in metallurgy. Exegesis is learned from the masters.”
-Stephen Westerholm
